Tres Bittersweet

I am now 2 months away from closing the doors to Woofs & Whiskers for good. I know I am making the right decision, it's something that I thought long and hard about. With the shelves emptying and my stock diminishing it is really starting to hit home. This has been my baby for the last 6 years and as I get closer to closing I realize what a bittersweet moment it's going to be. Where else will I be able to take my pups to work with me?
Woofs & Whiskers, for those of you who don't know, is located on a cute little street in West Annapolis. I call it the "Soho" of Annapolis. All the businesses are in old homes built in the 40's and 50's, all the top floors are residences. We have a number of Antique Stores, Galleries, a quilt and art supply store, and enough hair salons to allow you to change your hair color every day of the week. We have a cafe, a bistro, and a sandwich shop. There are also a number of therapists and healing art centers to round the street out. It's one of those neighborhoods that everyone knows your name. I will miss it, but I am also very excited at all the new possibilities that are yet to come my way.

You Don't Miss It Until It's Gone.

I have started to appreciate things I have in my life much more than I used to. I never try to take anything for granted, because you just don't know when you'll be without it. It has been about 6 weeks since Terry and I parted ways. After processing everything over and over, I now know I will never hear from him. During the course of our relationship whenever there was a bump in the road, I always made the reconciliation call or sent the e-mail. After my last call, and his responding e-mail, add 6 weeks of no contact, I'm thinking it's over. Now I've got to put my big girl panties on and deal with.
We had planned a trip to New Bern,North Carolina which I was thrilled about because having gone to school about 20 miles away in Havelock, I couldn't wait to show Terry all the great historic spots of the area. Now that that is not going to happen, I am looking forward to the road trip Kris and I are planning to Louisville. We're going down to take some of my mother's furnishings to Kathy and then pick up Kathy's pup Chloe. From there Kathy heads on a 2 week Mediterranean Cruise while I watch Chloe and continue my "Going Out of Business Sale", something else I will miss when it's gone.

It's a Break!!

Tuesday morning I'm in the Podiatrist's office, they slid me in because of the urgency in my voice when making the appointment. Now, I like to pride myself on my pain threshold... but I am running out of "Happy Places". After a series of x-rays, I have broken my 5th metatarsal.
The break was nice and clean. I had the option of surgery with pins and screws, or a boot for 6-8 weeks. After maybe a nano-second I opted for the boot. So much for sexy sandal season. The good news is I'll save a fortune on pedicures, the bad news is I will miss out on the "Eagleman Triathlon" I signed up for in June.

Nurse's Orders

Monday, the day after dropping the planter on my foot, I take Harper down to the gazebo for her morning romp. Donna is there with Winslow, and sees my foot....at this point it has swollen up like a blow fish with mumps, black & blue on top, side and bottom. Donna is a nurse, and in her most gentle, but urgent voice, she lets me know that the foot has so many bones in it that an x-ray might not be a bad idea. I tell her I think it's just bruised, just like the knight in "Monty Python", "..it's just a flesh wound", but know that I will make an appointment with my local Podiatrist as soon as I get to work.
After lining up my worker bee, and making the appointment I finish the day out with my foot up on my roller chair. Whheeee!!!!!

All Decked Out

Now that I am single and have nothing to do with myself, I decided last weekend I would get all my planters out of the garage and set up my deck with all the beautiful colors that springtime flowers allow. I would much rather light a candle than sit in the dark forever..... so I've got all the planters, but 2 set up just awaiting their new tenants. The 2nd to last planter slipped and landed on the edge of my foot. OOOuucchhh!!!! After screaming every expletive that I learned in Catholic School, I applied ice and put my foot up. My trip to the nursery was out.
